Welcome to Healthy Frugal Filipino! My name is Carlo Alado, and I’m a married father of three living in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines. I was born in Manila, but raised in sunny southern California when my family moved there while I was 9 years old. My family was called to Cagayan de Oro for work reasons, and we moved here after I graduated from high school. I live in CDO with my wife, Jhean; three kids named Floriline (Lynn), Monica (Mesoo), and James (Happy); and my widowed mom, Caroline.
For several years, I owned the award-winning blog, Lessons Of A Dad, which originally focused on my family life. It was a good run, but I soon realized that LOAD’s niche was too narrow and my article topics deviated from the blog’s original purpose far too often. So I decided to scrap it and start all over again. (If you enjoyed my articles in LOAD, rest assured that I enjoyed making them too and I imported some of my favorite ones onto this new blog)
I will still talk about my family life (especially since my kids aspire to be bloggers, themselves), but Healthy Frugal Filipino will allow me to focus on other topics as well. As the title suggests, I am a health enthusiast and a proud Filipino. I also believe that we don’t need to spend an arm and a leg to stay healthy as well, hence the “Frugal”part of this blog’s title. Being a devout Christian and a part-time Montessori teacher, every once in a while I will delve into these topics too..
Please don’t let the “Filipino” part of my title make you think that my site is exclusive to my countrymen. Everyone is welcome here, although I admit that my articles will focus on local issues a bit more, especially since I truly, truly believe that the Philippines is greatly blessed with an abundance of resources, yet we neither appreciate nor maximize them, much to our detriment.
I hope you are blessed and maybe even challenged as you browse through the contents of my humble blog. Blessings to you all!
